I have a broad range of experience to offer, covering everything from PC repair, server and network administration through to full on-site customer consultancy in a wide variety of operating systems and network products. I am solely in charge for keeping 4 databases up to date with the details of the equipment. Setting up of secure ID's for the RAS servers. I have also project managed special projects for other department's. This contract was extended twice with a rate rise. They have now offered me a full time position. Dec 99 Compel On site repair for Thames Water repairing their IBM PC’s and laptop’s running Windows 95, HP printers and Compaq Servers with Novell 4.11 on all of there London based sites. This was mainly a hardware support role with some software. This contract was extended twice. Nov 99 Balfour Beatty Implementing a 100 strong Windows NT workstation roll out on DELL PC's and installing users apps. customizing the PC's to there requirements. Upgrading some 15 Compaq laptops for more memory and hard disk drives to install Windows NT, and 5 new DELL laptops to also run Windows NT. This contract was extended three times. Sept99 Action IT LTD Helpdesk support role and call logging with some PC support in First Choice main administration office in Crawley. This was only to cover holiday leave for a full time person. This contract was extended three times. As a consultant my services were contracted out to Baker Tilly's customers where I was called upon to make recommendations to their networks to improve reliability. In between external contracts, I was responsible for supporting all the three Baker Tilly offices. This included network server maintenance, installing and configuring a new Novell 4.11 server with all user accounts, as well as all hardware and software. I also implemented the upgrading of all the PC’s to Win 95 using drive-copying software in the main office and replication software in the remote Offices. During this time I was also 1st line support for all offices and 2nd / 3rd line support for the main office this included support for Corel 6/7/8 plus MS Office 95/7, and ISIS. I worked with the director of IT and other managers in making recommendations on our networks to improve reliability and fault diagnostics while co-ordinating other engineers. I set-up and maintained accounts with PC vendors and ensured continuing maintenance and support for Baker Tilly, these included Dell computers and Blue Point ltd. I have streamed lined Baker Tilly's contract maintenance agreement with a company called MICL based in Watford.
I solely set-up and ran the Solaris (UNIX) technical help desk while taking orders from customers. I was also responsible for supporting internal networks, tape backups, restoration of lost and damaged files and databases. This included 1st line support for all developers working on Lotus Notes 3, 4 and Domino as well as support externally for the USA and Spain with regard to Notes replication. I installed, configured and administered servers running NT 3.51, 4 for use as the Lotus Notes servers (3, 4 and Domino), and Novell 3.12 and 4.11 that were used for basic access, file, print services and running MS Office 95, Lotus SmartSuite.
This was my first contract, initially for 1 month but it was extended to 3 months due to extreme customer satisfaction. I was responsible for helpdesk support for hardware and software on all offices PC’s. I created the call logging database for the I.T. department. I was solely in-charge of server administration and tape backups for all the servers running Novell 4.1 and the UNIX based systems. I also co-ordinate external PC support vendors to assist with the up keep of the network. This entailed the ordering of parts and PC support engineers to fix downed units.
With British Telecom I was a Technician / supervisor of the cable repair engineers. My duties were to install additional cables to the network, fault find, repair and restore service to the network. I was fully responsible for the team’s safety and administration. I had been doing this for three successful years before I then took the redundancy package offered to me.
At Dartpoint ltd. I was building power supplies for battery backups and switch tripping gear used for computers. I was trained in fault diagnostics, packing and distribution of the product. I was also trained on the help desk, dealing with customer’s orders by phone and fax. I was in charge of keeping up to date with the parts and production of the units we designed and built.
